Abusive Fans!
Sporting authorities are going to get tough on louts, abusive fans, and offensive officials - coaches may be liable for bullying their players and umpires will be protected from hurtful comments. Bans on attendance and legal action are possible penalties.
If you can't say it in the street, why should you be able to take it out on your favourite sporting villain? What do you think?
Geoff from East Brighton had this to say:
These people have got to be kidding! Is this what it's come down to, where we can't separate our recreational activities from criminal activities? You go to the football to let off steam - let's not get so precious that we compare our response to the antics of umpires and players to the way we are expected to behave in the wider community. Sure, we don't want to hear racial comments in the crowd, but do you really think any judge is going to convict a fan for slagging off at an umpire? Get real, this is political correctness taken to an extreme. Haven't lawmakers and sports officials got anything better to do with their time and our money?
